The field crop sector at Kibbutz Gvar’am plays a central role in the kibbutz’s agricultural operations, managing a diverse range of field crops and orchards while continuously exploring innovative cultivation practices.

In the first year of the project, the field crop team tested two methods for terminating service crops: flattening with an angled roller and incorporating crop residues as green manure.

The integration of service crops yielded positive outcomes across several key areas, including enhanced soil structure, improved resource efficiency (through reduced tillage and greater energy savings), and better resilience to water stress in cotton fields managed under the green fallow system.

Throughout the year, multiple field visits and grower tours were held, where Eran shared his experiences and insights from the project. His engagement underscored a strong commitment to continuous learning and refining soil health management practices, further advancing sustainable agriculture in the region.
